French Course for Teachers at URI !

 

NEW EDC 920: Workshop for Teachers (3) grad credits

TOPIC: French Culture in the Classroom

Registration Deadline: July 1, 2008

 

This course is designed to help teachers of upper level French classes animate their classes through the study of French and Francophone culture and current events through the use of: cultural readings, short stories, literature, music, newspaper articles, film, and most importantly the French news and other current documentaries from the French TV channel, TV5.  The class will be held in the language, allowing teachers to increase their competence in French through a variety of activities, including a final presentation. 

*Participants will need the use of a digital camera for this class.

 

Instructor: Sharyn Hallal

Course costs: $500.00         

Class will meet at: TBA

Class Meeting Dates: August 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 12  

Class meets: 8-4:30 daily

Le Grand Concours :  Strength in Numbers

2007 once again saw record enrollment in LGC

For comparison :

              The National Latin Exam :           135,000 students

              The National French Contest :    104,155 students

              The National Spanish Exam :         89,401 students. 

              The National German test :            26,177 students

 These comparisons show us that The National French Exam continues to be a strong presence in our schools.

Level I - $50 savings bond (AATFRI)

Liège Pre-convention Seminar 2008

- Belgium & Switzerland -

 

AATF National President Marie-Christine Koop has obtained funding from the Belgian
and Swiss governments to organize a two-week pre-convention seminar.

 

One week at the University of Geneva and one week at the University of Liège.

Please note that the application deadline for this seminar is earlier (01 Feb)

The band OPUS 4 was born in 1997 in the south of France near Saint Tropez.  OPUS 4 turns the Russian, Romanian, and gypsy folk songs in a new way, building a bridge between the two borders of the Atlantic ocean. Inspired by their eastern roots and swing music, they invite the  audience to take a tour into the gypsy lands and Django Reinhardt style.
